Vintage Inspiration: How To Marry A Millionaire

Here's a new feature we're introducing on the blog for Spring and Summer. It's called 'Vintage Inspiration' and we'll share different places we gain inspiration for picking clothes for the shop and keep our love for vintage going. The first is the 1953 film, starring Marilyn Monroe, 'How to Marry a Millionaire."

So many gorgeous dresses and starring three truly beautiful women. I won't retell the story here, it's a fantastic film and you should go watch it if you haven't already seen it. I'll just share these wonderful stills from the film.

I think the thing that makes the fashion so great here is the styling. Perfect hats, coats and shoes accentuate every outfit. Of course now a days, we don't really dress to the nines in vintage but it's fun to get inspiration by looking at how a dress was originally styled or how a scarf was tied.

As an example, the thing I remember the most about this film, more than the plot or even the actresses, is the cat eye glasses the Marilyn Monroe's character wears. You see her in them periodically throughout the film, with a long pink evening gown or in a smart black suit. They are the perfect addition to each of her outfits and although it's a joke that she doesn't want to wear them in front a man, it's adorable that she ends up with a guy that loves her better with them.
