Seeing a Redwood

Part of the reason we wanted to drive to California for my birthday was so I could see a Redwood tree. It's always been on my 'life list' to see one but since reading an article in The New Yorker a few years back, I've really had the itch. My 30th birthday seemed as good of a time as any to cross something off my to-do list, so we headed down to Crescent City last Friday after I closed up the shop.

We slept in the mid-century perfection of the Curly Redwood Lodge Friday nite and woke up early Saturday to take a bunch of photos of ourselves in the hotel room. After a big breakfast we started our drive down the 101 to find a Redwood.

I was so excited when we practically stumbled upon this 1500 year old Redwood. It's humbling and pretty amazing to think about how old that actually is and I'm not afraid to admit that I teared up a bit.

After our tree stop, we headed over to San Francisco and then to Santa Cruz, visiting friends and family and eating some delicious food. It was a fantastic way to celebrate my birthday, I even got a new early-1950's red dress for my personal collection which I'll have to share photos of soon!

Now that I'm back at the shop we have lots going on to prepare for Fall. New dresses, skirts, sweaters and more will be coming into the shop next week. Sweet Anthem, a perfume line based in Seattle, is now on the shelves and I'll be adding a handmade underwear line and some beautiful locally made jewelry this month too. I hope you'll come by our shop and check it out!
