Vintage Inspiration: Circus

As a child, I loved the circus. I blame Big Top Pee-wee. The circus combines bearded ladies, lion tamers, elephants and cotton candy and has always struck me as equal parts creepy and entertaining. Getting a ticket to the traveling circus was an incredibly popular way to entertain yourself in the early twentieth century. Now as a vintage clothing collector I notice how amazing the costumes are from these early circus performers. Looking at these photos has me wanting to sew sequins, tassels and feathers to all my clothing!

  1. OMG! I know exactly how you feel. I think the same thing. I'd love to have a Circus party where all my friends have to dress up vintage circus. I too, collect vintage, sew and write (The Girl in the Jitterbug Dress--vintage swing dance novel)! I want the outfit of the last girl with the ballet shoes. He costume is AMAZING!
